Voting & Early Voting
You can only early vote in your county of residence. If you are registered to vote in Orange County, or are eligible to use same-day registration at an Orange County early voting site, the closest early voting location to campus is Chapel of the Cross, 304 E. Franklin St. (next to Morehead Planetarium).
To register to vote during the early voting period, be sure to bring proof of residency, showing your name and current address. If you live in a residence hall on-campus or in Granville Towers, Orange County election officials have a roster, so you may show your One Card as proof of residency.
Please check the Orange County Board of Elections website, or your home county’s Board of Elections website, for more information about early voting locations and hours. During early voting, you may vote at any early voting location in your county of residence. If you are a registered voter, you may also vote by mail for any reason. You can request a mail-in absentee ballot and track the ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Tuesday, October 27, but the state and local boards of elections are urging voters to request as soon as possible.
As a reminder to faculty and staff, UNC employees are prohibited by law (N.C. General Statute 126-13) and UNC Board of Governors' policy from using the authority of their positions or from using state funds, supplies or vehicles to secure support for or to oppose any candidate, party or issue in an election.
