Community Emergency Notification

As an off-campus resident, in the event of a community emergency (ex: evacuation notices, bio-terrorism alerts, boil water notices, and public health emergencies), you must follow the direction of the proper community authorities in your municipality. Several communities in the area have implemented emergency alert systems where you can register to receive emergency updates and alerts. We encourage all members of the university community to register in order to receive emergency information. If your municipality is not listed here, please contact your local government to get information on how emergency information will be disseminated. Here are links to where you can register:

Alert Carolina

We also strongly encourage you to register with the University's emergency alert system, Alert Carolina. This system is great tool for educating yourself on what to do and what resources are available during an on-campus emergency.

Emergency Preparedness

We encourage you to take time to make sure you are prepared for emergencies. Our geographic location means this area is subject to disruption of services as a result of naturally occurring events like hurricanes and severe winter weather. There are many resources available to help you prepare for natural and person-made events. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides detailed information on what to do before, during, and after emergency events such as wildfires, floods, chemical spills, and terrorism. There is also some specific information about pandemic flu that is available to the public. Follow these links for FEMA and/or pandemic flu.
